Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What should I expect during the reaffirmation process?
All institutions accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) undergo reaffirmation of accreditation every ten years. This comprehensive review evaluates the institution as a whole, including the main campus, instructional sites, and any additional locations where academic programs are offered.
As part of this process, Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is required to prepare and submit a Compliance Certification Report, which documents the institution’s adherence to SACSCOC’s Principles of Accreditation. This report reflects a thorough review of institutional operations and effectiveness.
In addition, MSM will develop and submit a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)—a focused initiative designed to improve student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
Who is involved in the reaffirmation process?
Reaffirmation is a collaborative, institution-wide effort. Faculty, staff, administrators, and students all play a role in ensuring MSM demonstrates compliance with accreditation standards.
Members of the MSM community may be asked to:
- Participate in committees or working groups
- Contribute documentation or data
- Support institutional assessment and improvement efforts
Active participation, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence are essential to a successful reaffirmation process.
What are MSM’s responsibilities during reaffirmation?
During the reaffirmation process and in all interactions with SACSCOC, MSM is expected to:
- Maintain integrity in all institutional practices
- Comply with the Principles of Accreditation and all Commission policies
- Provide accurate, complete, and timely information
- Conduct honest and thorough self-assessment
- Engage openly with peer reviewers
- Fully cooperate throughout the evaluation process
Why is reaffirmation important?
Reaffirmation of accreditation ensures that MSM continues to meet rigorous standards of quality and effectiveness in higher education. It demonstrates the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and academic excellence.
Maintaining accreditation is essential to MSM’s ability to:
- Deliver high-quality education
- Support student success
- Prepare future healthcare leaders
- Maintain public trust and institutional credibility
